A small collar and a lead solve different problems on a daily walk. Compare the Small Pet Collar and Pet Lead on fit, length, and care so you buy only what your dog needs.
Quick answer
Buy the Pet Lead first if you already have a well-fitting collar, because its 175cm length is the part that changes how daily walks feel. Choose the Small Pet Collar first only if your dog's current collar rubs, slips, or is not waterproof.
What each piece actually does on a walk
The Small Pet Collar holds ID and gives you a fixed attachment point close to your dog's neck. The Pet Lead is the control line between your hand and that attachment point, so its length and handle determine how much room your dog has to roam.
That split matters for a dog walking gear comparison: a collar problem shows up as rubbing or slipping, while a lead problem shows up as pulling, tangling, or too little slack. Fix the piece causing the problem rather than replacing both.
The length trade-off on the Pet Lead
At 175cm, the Pet Lead gives a small dog room to sniff and wander without you crouching or shortening your stride. On a busy footpath or near roads, that same length needs active handling, so it suits relaxed walks better than tight heelwork.
The lead's customisable handle and base colours are a style choice, not a fit choice. Treat colour as the last decision and confirm the hardware and strap condition first.
Where the Small Collar stops short
The Small Collar is listed at 34.8cm long and 1cm wide, which is a narrow band. Measure your dog's neck before ordering, because a 1cm width is built for small necks and gives less surface area on a broader or stronger dog.
If your dog sits near the top of the small size range, the supplied specifications do not list a larger size, so check the size chart rather than assuming the Small will stretch to fit.
Trade-offs to weigh before you buy
- Collar first: Choose the Small Pet Collar if your dog's neck measures within the 34.8cm small size and the current collar slips, rubs, or soaks up water. You gain a waterproof, easy-clean band, but you get no lead length. Measure the neck before ordering, not after.
- Lead first: Choose the Pet Lead if your dog already wears a collar that fits and the walk feels restricted. You gain 175cm of roaming room and a waterproof strap, but you still need a collar to attach it to. A lead cannot replace a missing or ill-fitting collar.
- Buying both: If you are starting from scratch, pair the Small Collar with the Pet Lead so the attachment point and the control line are designed to the same coated-webbing standard. Expect to pay for two items rather than one. Check that the collar's attachment point suits the lead's clip before first use.
Product facts at a glance
- Pet Collar - Small: Small size measures 34.8cm long and 1cm wide, with reinforced poly-coated webbing and stainless steel hardware. The narrow band and coated strap suit small necks and wet walks, but the 34.8cm length is the number to check against your dog's neck measurement.
Pet Collar - Small - Pet Lead: The Pet Lead is 175cm long with a reinforced, poly-coated webbing strap and waterproof, easy-clean construction. The 175cm length gives a small dog room to sniff on daily walks, while the coated strap handles wet grass and muddy paths.
